The commitment to the generation of electrical energy has been the fulcrum that has sustained the growth of Electra Norte over the last two decades. Conscious of the challenge that global warming poses to the planet, from the beginning we have directed all our investments towards renewable energy sources. In this way, not only have we managed to produce electricity independently and with sufficient capacity for self-sufficiency, but we have done so in compliance with the essential principles of sustainability.
Electra Norte’s vision and environmental commitment has allowed us to be pioneers in the use of renewable energy in Asturias. In 2000, we promoted the construction of the first grid-connected photovoltaic plant in the autonomous community and, a year later, we launched a collaborative project in which private individuals were able to invest in the promotion of solar plants through the investment accounts system, a totally new means of funding for the sector at that time.
The knowledge acquired to start up our own power plants has enabled us to collaborate with other companies in the planning and construction of their renewable energy production plants. Thus, at Electra Norte we promote wind, solar, mini-hydro, biomass and wave power projects from their initial phase, locating sites with high quality natural resources and designing facilities that respect the environment and the landscape in which they are integrated.
Electra Norte currently has a presence in Spain, Chile, Romania and the Republic of Moldova, with more than 200 MW under developement.
Electra Norte is in charge of the technical (O&M), administrative and financial tasks necessary to guarantee the optimum performance of a renewable energy generation facility.
